Salmon Salad, FTW

I’ve been making a huge effort in bringing my lunch to work to make sure I keep it healthy. I was steaming shrimp or making chicken to put on my salads, but to change it up I started using smoked salmon. How could I not have thought of this sooner? DELICIOUS. Just a little pepper on it, no dressing needed. Enjoy.

Simple Sensitive Skin

I recently received some Simple Sensitive Skin products from Klout.

Simple Sensitive Skin

I have really sensitive combination skin with patches that are oily and patches that are really dry. Really, really dry. the moisturizer worked well to help combat the drier parts without making my skin oily. The facial wipes also did a great job of removing makeup. All in all, the isn’t something I necessarily would have purchased to try, but now I would.

I was given a free product or sample because I’m a Klout influencer. I was under no obligation to receive the sample or talk about this company. I get no additional benefits for talking about the product or company.

The Challenge: Day 1

Today was the first official day of the challenge.  I want to be as honest and open about the challenge on this blog as possible – I think that’s what will keep me on track.  I debated whether or not to announce my starting weight up front.  Part of me thought if I could just make it to my target weight I could announce it then  because my starting weight wouldn’t matter anymore because it wouldn’t be what I weighed, it would be what I used to weigh.  But I also thought if I were reading this, I would want to know how much the “challenger,” so to speak, weighs.  Maybe that’s just me.

I weighed in this morning at 129.  That’s about 12 lbs heavier than when I graduated college.  I know that’s not a huge number, but I’m a really short person.  According to the BMI I’m about 5 lbs away from being overweight – something I don’t want to be.  I also know my goal of 10 lbs isn’t that much, but I really want to be more trimmed and toned.

Losing 10 lbs would put me exactly in the middle of the “healthy” weight portion of a BMI chart. That seems like the perfect place to be.

Challenge: Day 1

I don’t want to look at pictures from just a few months ago and think I’ve gained weight since then.  Right now I feel like that’s the case.  So I’m ready to take on this challenge and make some headway – hopefully I can stick to it!

First Outdoor Run of 2010

It is beautiful out this morning.  Sunny, warm (but not hot) & breezy.  Perfect for a run.  I woke up early & went for my first outdoor run of the season.  Loves it.

Calorie Counts: There’s No Hiding Now

It looks like Panera Bread will enforce nationwide what I’m already loving about my local spot: calorie counts on all menu boards.  I LOVE that this already takes place in the location around the corner from my apartment.

NYC already requires restaurants to post calories in restaurant chains (see the Newsweek article about this) – which I appreciate.

Will this help people make better choices?  I think so.  A number of items one would think would be a healthier choice – especially at somewhere seemingly healthy like Panera – may not be.  Salad dressings, spreads & bread choices have huge impacts on what seem like (& can be) healthy options.

From the Newsweek article: Continue reading
